THE OASIS PLATFORM
An organizing philosophy and a data platform
SMT’s 35 years of experience touching every aspect of the live sports industry from live sports television, to live sports in-venue presentation, to live sports production, to live sports fan engagement, to live sports promotion, to live sports digital presentation, to live sports league management has led SMT to create a powerful organizing philosophy called OASIS and a powerful data management system called the OASIS Platform (Organization of Asynchronous Sports Information Subsystems).
OASIS as an organizing philosophy views the data landscape of a sports league in three (3) layers:
Level 0 All subsystems that create data or video
Level 1 The central hub that absorbs, collates, synchronizes, organizes, expands, and distributes all
Level 1 data via push and query APIs
Level 2 All subsystems that consume, present, or use the data
OASIS’ organizing philosophy defines a simple, intuitive approach to a sports league’s data governance and data management but requires a highly disciplined, central authority to maintain the proper separation of the layers and to maintain functional independence between layers for a sports league to gain the full benefits of the OASIS organizing philosophy.
OASIS is agnostic as to whether there are multiple individual vendors supplying the various subsystems at Level 0 or Level 2 or whether there is just one vendor supplying all subsystems at Level 0 or all subsystems at Level 2. The OASIS organizing philosophy ensures all subsystem suppliers maintain functional independence, communicate clearly to others, and receive the full benefit of their participation.
As a product, the OASIS Platform is a highly integrated, multi-venue, time-synchronized, multilevel, data/video management system that SMT architected, designed and created to provide professional sports leagues with a centrally controlled and league-controlled platform to organize, maintain, administer, and manage all phases of the league’s data creation, data distribution, data visualization, and data monetization.
RACEf/x
Racef/x incorporates GPS and many other technologies to enable real-time and exact display of all cars throughout a racing event. Racef/x uses compact, high-performance GPS receivers to provide real-time measurement of race car positions. Coupled with other data inputs, the system generates graphical effects relevant to the current view of a race camera by directly coupling real-time vehicle position to the broadcast screen images.
Developed in 2002, RACEf/x combines most accurate GPS tracking data, camera registration data, race tracks, timing and scoring, and ECU (engine control unit) data to provide a complete broadcast and digital service with many different effects onto the screens.
-
Used by NASCAR in each of its racing series
-
Used by SRX (inaugural 2021 season)
-
Creates real-time race record using on-board GPS units that capture positioning and telemetry data including:
-
Speed, RPM, Brake, Throttle, Acceleration/deceleration, Time behind leader, etc.

Team Analytics
In 2018, SMT launched Team Analytics for NASCAR teams. This application ingests a data feed that combines loop data, timing and scoring, and location and telemetry data to create a visualization tool to aid the teams in understanding how to gain a competitive advantage. Today, almost every CUP and Xfinity team successfully uses Team Analytics to analyze and evaluate car behavior and driver inputs in a real time, live environment as well as in replay.
Team Analytics offers a constantly expanding feature set that includes:
-
Customizable visualizations
-
Configurable virtual camera options
-
Session Manager to allow users to individually select racing sessions for comparisons
as well as cross-session analysis -
Data can be accessed live or on demand
-
Virtual Timing & Scoring Fixed Loops
-
Recording feature: Users can record video clips for easy sharing
Broadcast Analytics
With its popular "GhostCar" feature, SMT's Broadcast Analytics integrates data and telemetry to virtually highlight replays, allowing commentators to analyze drivers performance.
During live sessions, the GhostCar application ingests RACEf/x tracking data, and, through an easy-to-navigate user interface, allows producers to cue up laps to compare performances from compelling vantage points not available through broadcast cameras.
Graphics include themed, color badges for the leaderboard, pit road and telemetry graphics.
